Costas Stephanidess Review
That's short for Silhouette in case you were wondering.
Sil has won a whole bevy of awards and we thought it was time to find out why. First up this is a Symbian game and will only work on high end handsets that obviously operate on the Symbian system. Due to the technical specs of this operating system, games can have some huge file sizes and Sil is no different coming at around the 1 Mb mark.
They have used all that memory to good use and the graphics will blow you away. Sil comes across as a simple game. You are given a silhouette of an object such as a set of golf clubs and you have to rotate the object into position so that it matches the given silhouette - within a given time frame. It may sound easy but you are given full freedom of motion across all the axes. The game becomes a pure test of your spatial awareness which is great if you regular use AutoCAD.
The graphics are great from sumptuous backgrounds to elaborate shapes and objects to orientate. What's really impressive is the ease and smoothness with which you can rotate the objects. The controls don't rely on any complicated system that you might find on an Engineering drawing package; you just play around with your Dpad until the object drifts into the correct position.
The game is not just about showcasing what a mobile handset can achieve. Fathammer have brought in unlockable trophies and extra modes to increase the gameplay of Sil.
There are a couple of modes on offer each with their own intricacies and trophies. This is not going to be a quick game which can be completed within a couple of hours. It will require many attempts to master and learn the objects as you gently nudge your brain cells from their slumber. This is not a game that will have you on the edge of your seat desperate to play at every opportunity but rather one that you will gradually appreciate like you would with a fine red wine. In fact we are not too sure if this actually is a game but either way it's damn good fun and gets our thumbs up.
