Daniel Pugh’s Review

Review Date: 08/10/06

Good fun, nostalgic, plenty of different characters, practical array of powerups - once you complete it (which isn't too difficult) you might start getting bored (but isn't that the way with any game)!

I'd like to point out before the start that this review is being written after only 6/13 of the cars have been unlocked.

Wacky Races for mobile is a fun game. It has many similarities in gameplay and graphics to the GBColour release of the title.

Most has been said in the above categories. One thing I must talk about is the weapon powerups:
Oil-slick: Slows down the car behind you
Speed boost: Sends you hurtling forward with a lot o speed!
Thunderstorm: An electric bolt(s) zolts all opposing racers on the screen and slows them down.
Shield: Makes the racer invinsible from crashes for a while
Special Powerup (represented by ?): The problem with these is that they're all mobility power-ups that help you get a bit further ahead (not weapons - as far as I've seen so far):
Penelope Pitstop - Jump (leaps over obstacles/racers)
Slag Brothers/Rufus Ruffcut - Speed Ram (gives extra speed for a while)
Red Max - Flying (flies for a while over obstacles/racers)
Ant-Hill Mob/Army Surplus Special - Shooting (for a while, every time you press 5 you shoot forward slightly)

Now this isn't the most impressive lineup of special powerups with not ALL of them having unique ones. But it does give differences to your choice of car, as does the fact that grip and top speed varies between racers. That's good!

So far so good - and if you don't mind repetitiveness after a while then it's not a bad game - especially if you love nostalgic trips down memory lane with American states like the cartoon, namely Michigan, Alaska and Nevada.
