Costas Stephanidess Review
Another Taito classic.
Puzzle Bobble is one of those games that keeps popping up and its almost Tetris-like in its inability to slip away. Puzzle Bobble is a great game and fully deserves its legendary status.
Let me just get one thing out of the way, this version is an updated one developed by Kaasa and as far as we can tell, it's pretty difficult to find and buy this new version. The download links on the site do point to the original Puzzle Bobble that we reviewed a couple of years ago. Both are great games, the original being a faithful recreation of the first Puzzle Bobble.
The Kaasa version is similar to Puzzle Bobble's latter incarnations. The main difference is in the graphics. The balls are graphically much better and have a translucent effect to them rather than the solid balls of before. Also, there is a better use of the screen size. Most importantly, the sound is still as great and true to the arcade version.
The gameplay is very similar to the other mobile game. Although the graphics have been updated, there are no pulleys or landscape screens to break up the play. It's just another case of playing a continuous level of ball bursting madness until you lose. It's great for a quick two minute play just be aware that there is nothing to complete and no princess to save. It's all about the high score.
Why am I bothering to bore you with a re-hash of an old review? Because Kaasa are going to release Super Puzzle Bobble which promises to have defined levels. If Puzzle Bobble was meant as a practice run for Kaasa before the sequel, then they have proved their pedigree and we have high hopes for Super Puzzle Bobble.
