Anannya Sens Review
Another God game which is more akin to the old classics. Solidly made and if you like these sorts of games then give this a look.
The latest God game to hit the market, Empire Earth is a lot like the older games such as Megalomania and Dune.
Graphically the game has a 3D feel to it but actually is in 2D. The graphics aren??t overly impressive although there is sufficient shading on the terrain and there??s depth as well. The units themselves look very appropriate depending on what era they represent. The animation isn??t amazing at all as the attacks are fairly standard swipes at the opponent or a long throw of the spears. But the game isn??t about graphics.
The sound is ok, a pleasant tune when you load the game and during the game as well as basic sound effects on the attacks themselves. The sound could be a bit more atmospheric but the fact that there??s any sound at all is pretty good going. Nothing to get too excited about but a reasonable effort.
The controls are pretty simple, you can use the D or key pad to move your cursor around. The main button or 5 will select the unit or the building and give you a series of options which you navigate using left and right and select again by using 5 or the main button. The controls are easy to pick up and you should have mastered them in no time.
The gameplay is quite good. The game has the standard premise, you have to defeat your opponents by building units and having battles as well as taking over enemy and neutral structures and managing your resources. The actual resource management element is not that detailed, you just get to see what materials you need for your upkeep and this will help you determine how much you can spend on unit creation. The terrain plays a part in your defensive ability and each unit has different movement. You can upgrade units by spending and also upgrade your resource management. You can even upgrade your epoch once a game to enable to you take advantage of better weapons. As God games go, this one is pretty good. It has all the classic elements needed and there??s plenty to do. There are 2 modes as well as a multiplayer option. For some reason though, it just lacks a specific spark that some other recent God games have had (I??m not naming any names but if you visit this site regularly, then you should know which game I??m talking about). Don??t get me wrong, the game is good, but I wasn??t as addicted as I??ve been on other games. But you may love it.
The lastability is better as the game is big. There are plenty of levels and there??s a skirmish mode and multiplayer action as well. The game can be saved so you can battle away at your own convenience. So you definitely get value for money and if you like these types of games, give this one a go, it may just be right up your street.
