Anannya Sens Review
A solid adventure game for your phones. Nice graphics and fairly challenging.
Might and Magic is an adventure game set in a mythical world ruled by demons. You play the role of a young boy whose family was killed by demons so you set out to avenge them.
For a 2D game, the graphics are full of detail. The colours are rich and the backgrounds very nicely done. The main character and the other characters that you meet are quite individual as are the monsters and demons that you have to face. The effects and animation are good and the characters move smoothly so the game looks pretty impressive.
The sound is average, there are some tones when you load the game up and some sound effects in the game. These occur when you cast spells, fight or perform other actions. You get an option to turn the sound on or off before you load the game, but to be honest, as it's so sparse, it doesn't make that much of a difference. Definitely an area for improvement.
The controls appear tricky at first but you get used to them pretty quickly. You can use the D or key pad to move your character and due to the diagonal layout of the screen, the character moves in diagonals (ie down actually moves down left but due to the layout of the screen, this looks like just moving down). The main key or 5 will attack using your sword. Hold this down to charge it. 1 will perform your jumps and swinging and 3 will use items / perform magic attacks. You can scroll through these with 7 and 9. 0 will switch between characters. A lot to remember but you get used to it pretty quickly.
The playability is pretty good in my opinion. The game starts off slow and takes you through how to play it. The monsters aren't that hard. What is really good about the game is the variety in the levels, sometimes you have to have a straight out fight, sometimes you have to use your brain to figure out how to get past a certain creature or get up onto a specific ledge. You meet other characters as well who will help you out and often progressing involves teamwork as the other characters have different strengths. I thought the playability was great.
The lastability is not bad either. The game automatically saves your progress and you can load it up at any time. The one drawback is the loading time is pretty long the count stays on 3% for ages and then all of a sudden shoots up to 100. There are plenty of levels to keep you busy, some fairly quick and others not so. This is a good example of a decent adventure game for fans of the genre.
