NoBuO810s Review
Quickly became known as one of the better N-Gage games after the completely un-stellar launch of the handheld. Much like the system??s two most popular games (Tony Hawk??s Pro Skater & Tomb Raider) this game originally was available for the Playstation. The game showcases the graphical power of the N-Gage but does it in a two dimensional fashion, this will be explained further on in the review. The game utilizes many of the N-Gage features including: wireless multiplayer via Bluetooth, N-Gage Arena gameplay, and pretty impressive 3D graphics.
Gameplay:
The game is an incredible recreation of the original game. The original game was a 2D game so you could only travel left or right. With the occasional choice of different areas to venture to. But the camera pans around you giving the game a 3D feel, which makes the game look pretty impressive, however it is still a 2D plat former with polygonal graphics. You can choose between two characters: Nikki the important character can perform a double jump which is really useful when trying to reach high platforms. The other character Fargus, can do a roll attack which is not really important to how the game is played. Ideaworks 3D also opted to include wireless multiplayer using Bluetooth, you can also perform Shadow Racing by using the N-Gage Arena. You can also access tips and strategies to the game in the N-Gage Arena. These extras are wonderfully welcome.
Graphics:
If you want to show off your shiny new handheld gaming device to all your friends Pandemonium is a great game to get. Boasting near Playstation quality graphics, the game looks stunning on the game??s screen. The only main difference between this game and it??s Playstation counterpart would be the considerably lower framerate. However, it doesn??t affect the gameplay too much, so don??t worry.
Sound:
Like Tomb Raider, Pandemonium! features practically no background music. The sound basically comprises of really annoying sound effects like jumping ??boings?? and the sound of enemies. The original game featured a full soundtrack, so why couldn??t the N-Gage port feature this as well? Well, perhaps the amount of space was limited by the N-Gage??s MMC used. Hopefully future N-Gage games will utilize larger MMC??s.
Playability:
If you??ve played this game before, then you may find yourself a bit bored. However newcomers (such as I) found the game quickly addictive. And this game is mainly meant for an on-the-go type gaming experience. So if you??ve played this game before you may find the game to be pretty fun. Especially considering the N-Gage version features multiplayer thanks to the N-Gage Arena and you can play head-to-head thanks to wireless Bluetooth. A first for the series.
Overall:
If you're a fan of platforming type games, and are an 'on the go' kind of person, than you'll definitely find a spot for this game in your handheld collection. As a near perfect port of the original game you'll definitely have an awesome time playing this. And even if you aren't a big fan of this genre than you should be able to enjoy this game. So either way you win! This game also shows off the power of the N-Gage (except in terms of audio...), overall this game is definitely RECOMMENDED.
