An average basketball game that is ok to pass away the time. Decent graphics but no sound and gameplay which is not overly complicated.

I saw Yao Ming play when I was in Boston once. It was near the start of his career and the guy was poor. But the support he had in his fans was amazing to watch. Sadly, this game is also nearer poor than good, without much additional variety when it comes to support.

The graphics are actually pretty decent and they've captured Yao quite well. The hoop isn't bad and the animation on the slams and ball moving is very well done. The court background and crowd isn't too shabby either.

Once again there is no sound. Now, I know I play most games on silent on the train on the way into work, but I would have liked some form of sound, even if it was just some stupid tune on the menu screen.

The controls seem simple enough, left and right to move, hold up for the shot (and you can tap up for a fake) and down for a pass. When you are playing defense, then you just have to hold up to try and block.

The playability of the game is ok. You can either play with Yao or against Yao (just a different dunk animation depending on who you play with). And you play 2 on 2 facing one basket for 2 two minute quarters. The movement left to right is pretty quick and therefore it's not easy to block or to get an open shot. The pass only seems to work when your teammate is jumping and even then it can get blocked. With the two options, the modes seem limited, but I'm not sure what else they could have put in.

The lastability is another matter. There are no other modes and the two selectable ones get a bit repetetive unless you love basketball. You do have high scores however and if you really want to, you could try and beat them.

The game itself is fairly tricky and sometimes seems a bit random with the travelling or steals that occur. But the dunks are nice to see and the capturing of Yao himself is pretty good. And you can suspend / pause the game quite easily.
