Anannya Sen’s Review

A game which has the potential to be great, unfortunately it is too confusing and not engaging enough to play for an extended period of time.

I love RPG games so I was quite excited by this latest offering. I read the instructions, had a look at the level select and thought that this should be good fun. Unfortunately it wasn't.

The graphics are average, they look nice at times, but the colours do clash somewhat. The characters are fairly large but strangely animated, the monsters can be pretty big but they whizz around the screen. There are also lots of things going on so it can be a little confusing.

There is plenty of sound in the game with a nice tune that is reminiscent of the fantasy games from the past. There are also sounds when you are attacking or casting spells etc.

The controls are reasonable to pick up, you can use the directional pad or key pad for movement and there are different buttons to attack or use items, change spells, cast spells and change character. This was one drawback though, as I never got the hang of the fighting system. Maybe it was just me.

The playability suffers a great deal from the fact that the combat system is so confusing. I tried to get to grips with it and kill the monsters on the first screen, but nothing seemed to have much of an effect and I kept dying. There are plenty of options and several things to do in the game, but the fighting was confusing enough for me to not be able to get past the first level.

I'm sure this game has a lot of depth as there are many levels of difficulty and plenty of levels to improve on, but again, I never got that far. There are lots of spells to learn and skills to improve on so I'm sure that if someone gave this game a chance and figured out the combat system it might be worthwhile. I, however, was not predisposed to doing this as the game for me was not very enjoyable.

If someone can figure out how to play, please tell me as I would like to give this game another chance and not keep dying on the first few screens.
