London and LA ?? May 17, 2005 ?? Today at the 11th annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Sorrent, Inc., a leading creator and global publisher of mobile entertainment, announced an exclusive licensing agreement with legendary UK developers The Bitmap Brothers. Under the terms of the agreement Sorrent will launch mobile games based on three of its most popular and critically acclaimed titles, starting with the brutal and futuristic sports game Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe.
Over the coming months, Sorrent will be launching mobile versions of Bitmaps classics Speedball 2 in both Europe and North America and Xenon and The Chaos Engine in Europe. All three games are being developed by the UK-based Macrospace studio, with the aim of retaining the charm and innovation of the original games while introducing unique mobile elements such as Bluetooth multiplayer modes and uploadable instant replays.
The first game to launch will be the mobile version of ??Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe??, a violent and futuristic sports game which puts you in control of Brutal Deluxe, the newest team on the block. Your objective is to defeat all the other teams and claim the Speedball championship, but standing in your way are 9 opponents with the same aim in mind. Speedball 2 is a game where kicking and punching your way to victory is not only allowed, it??s rewarded!
For the mobile version, Bluetooth play modes have been added, allowing you to go head to head with friends and enemies. Also, players will be able to save and upload their favorite instant replay moments to the web. Speedball 2 will be one of the titles being showcased at this year??s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, USA.
??For many gamers The Bitmap Brothers titles were the pinnacle of great game design back in the early 90??s, with millions of games sold on home computers and game consoles worldwide,?? said Kristian Segerstrale, VP for Production, at the Macrospace Studio. ??By using Bluetooth and other innovative technologies, we plan to show a whole new generation of gamers how timeless great game design can be, and how mobile can bring these games to life in a way that couldn??t have been imagined back in the early 1990??s when these games were first launched.??
Originally Founded in 1987, The Bitmap Brothers are considered by many to be the original ??rock star?? developers: a small but highly successful development team with a history of creating unique, critically and commercially acclaimed IP across a number of popular platforms including the Commodore Amiga, Sega MegaDrive and Sony Playstation.
