Always raid towns and have 1-2 men surplus to buildings. They often wander off.

Upgrade your storehouse as quickly as possible otherwise you'll be wasting precious resources.

You can build the buildings and only keep people working on the buildings you need. This is especially useful if you are tight on money / resources so set a few to sleep mode.

Upgrading settlements increases the number of people you get.

The taxman is very useful.

Always try and get 2 taverns so you can produce both roast and swill.

Remember lots of things need herbs so have a herb farm. It doesn't have to be level 2 or above but the pig and wood farms should be.

With the dragons - always upgrade your castle in between attacks.
The game is quite hard so skip it.
Have a druid ready!
